Ceramite®

Description
Ceramite is a group of advanced ceramics incorporating inorganic composite material and densely packed micro-particles especially formulated to give superior performance in applications where wear resistance is a crucial operating factor. Ceramite qualities are cast to specific shapes and fired to accept metal contact.

The key compnent of Ceramite is Microsilica developed by Elkem. Microsilica (Silicon Oxide - SiO2) is an amorphous silica product derived from the production of Ferro Silicon and Silicon Metal.

• Microsilica and Cement - the key to high strength bond phase
• Improves particle efficiency - fills the void between larger aggregates
• Less water required for casting
• Dense ceramic with low porosity

Typical Applications
Furnace Blocks
Floor Tile
• Dipping Ladles
• Duct Linings
• Feed Tubes
• Troughs
• Pipe Linings

Wear Resistance Comparison
The Bohme Wear Resistance Test* According to DIN Standard 52108
* A 7.1 cm cube sample is pressed with a 300 N force against a grinding wheel that is coated with a fone grade corundum sand. The sample is rotated 22 times (1 campaign) after which it is cleaned and weighed. The grinding machine is cleaned after each campaign and new media is distributed on the grinding wheel. The test required 18 campaigns. The Bohme Test results are expressed as the volume of material lost from the specimen in cm3 from the surface area exposed to wear.
